Lake Skinner Boat Launch Reopens with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Bass Fishing Derby

Temecula Valley, CA – January 27, 2026 - Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District (RivCoParks) is proud to announce the official reopening of the boat launch at Lake Skinner Recreation Area with a ribbon cutting ceremony and bass fishing derby on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Operated by RivCoParks, Lake Skinner Recreation Area is a premier camping and outdoor destination spanning more than 8,800 acres in southwest Riverside County. Lake Skinner is home to a diverse range of fish species, including largemouth bass, striped bass, catfish, bluegill, and other panfish. The lake is widely recognized for its productive fisheries and has long been a favorite among recreational and tournament anglers throughout Southern California.

“The reopening of the boat launch and the bass fishing derby brings our community together to enjoy everything Lake Skinner has to offer,” said Riverside County Third District Supervisor Chuck Washington. “These events create opportunities for families, anglers, and visitors to connect while supporting local businesses, showing how our regional parks strengthen both the community and local economy.”

Over the past year, the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) supported key infrastructure improvements at the campground, including road upgrades to reduce flooding and improve safety, water system enhancements to minimize service disruptions, and other renovations to Boat Launch #1 featuring new restroom facilities, a fish cleaning station, improved parking, and enhanced accessibility.

The formal reopening ceremony will take place from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. and will be free to attend by the public. Derby entry is $35 per person. Gates open at 5:00 a.m., the derby will begin at 7:00 a.m., with final weigh-in taking place at 12:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at 1:00 p.m. This derby will feature cash prizes sponsored by the Lake Skinner Campstore and Rental, for the largest bass, including:
